We were commissioned to extend and renovate an 18th-century farmhouse, incorporating both traditional and contemporary design elements. The project involved a large, two-storey green oak frame extension at the rear, complemented by two single-storey extensions on either side, and new front porch. The works also included alterations to the internal layouts across both floors, as well as changes to the external envelope and elevations.
Our clients approached us to refine and developed a previously approved planning scheme into a comprehensive technical package, which included detailed Building Regulations drawings and specifications. We were also responsible for the design of the timber frame and structural engineering, all of which were seamlessly coordinated in house between Studio Zed and our sister company, STUDS.
The extensions successfully blend traditional craftsmanship with modern construction techniques. The exposed timber frame prominently features throughout, linking the new additions to the rich heritage of the original farmhouse and the surrounding area.
