This project involved introducing a front single-storey extension to a 19th-century stone terrace cottage. Our client’s ambition was to transform a small patio space into a year-round sunroom that generated much sort after additional space to the property. The extension was designed to maximise on natural light and views, to connect the interior with the garden and surrounding landscape.
The extension comprises of a timber frame with natural stone-coloured render, ensuring harmony with the original cottage. A zinc standing-seam roof with a large, fixed skylight and concealed gutters creates a clean, minimal finish, whilst wide sliding windows enhance the connection to the outdoors. The extension is carefully positioned between neighbouring properties, ensuring access for maintenance and promoting natural ventilation through the large sliding openings and a stable front door.
